A teenage boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming near a beach in Dublin.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at Burrow Beach in Sutton at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.
It is understood the alarm was raised after the boy got into difficulty while swimming with a friend.
The Coast Guard was involved in the rescue operation and the boy was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital before being transferred to CHI at Temple Street in Dublin, where he later died.
It is understood the boy was 14 years old.
A Coast Guard spokesman said the second boy was rescued from the water by lifeguards and members of the public.
Fingal County Council confirmed there were three lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident and alerted the Coast Guard.
The council expressed its sympathies to the family and friends of the boy who died, and said it is assisting gardaí with their investigation.
