An appeal for information has been issued following a road crash in Co Kilkenny last night in which a 17-year-old boy died.

Two men in their 20s were also injured in the single-car collision, which occurred in the Dowling area of south Kilkenny, between Piltown and Mullinavat.

One of the men is in a serious but stable condition at University Hospital Waterford, while the other is also being treated at UHW for injuries, which gardaí say are not thought to be life-threatening.

The crash happened at about 8pm near the village of Templeorum.

The teenager's body was removed to UHW where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

The road remains closed to allow technical experts carry out an examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users with video footage, including dash-cam, to make to contact Thomastown Garda Station on 056 7754150 or any Garda station.
