Man charged with murdering partner in 2017

A construction worker has appeared in court charged with murdering his former partner in Dublin almost five years ago.

Mother-of-two Amadea McDermott, from Ayrfield in Coolock, died on 20 July 2017.

Martin Hayes, with an address at Poddle Close, Crumlin, appeared before Dublin District Court this morning where he was charged with her murder.

The court heard that Mr Hayes was arrested on Cork Street in Dublin this morning.

Sergeant Anthony Maloney told the court the 32-year-old was taken to Coolock Garda Station where he was charged with the murder of Ms McDermott at 8.02am.

Sergeant Maloney said when he was charged with murder Mr Hayes replied "not guilty."

The court heard that the Director of Prosecutions has directed trial by indictment.

No bail application was made in court as the District Court does not have jurisdiction, but Judge Anthony Halpin was told an application will be made in the High Court.

Judge Halpin granted an application for legal aid and remanded Mr Hayes in custody to appear in court in Cloverhill on Friday 8 April for service of the book of evidence.
