The Health Information and Quality Authority has announced the appointment of Angela Fitzgerald as its new Chief Executive.
Ms Fitzgerald has previously served as Deputy National Director, Acute Operations in the Health Service Executive, Regional Director for Performance and Integration for Dublin North East, and Deputy Chief Executive of St James' Hospital.
HIQA says Ms Fitzgerald "has driven change and quality improvements" in her work over the past 27 years, and that she has developed and implemented hospital policy - advising on strategy, policy and patient safety issues.
Its Chairperson, Professor Pat O’Mahony, has said HIQA looks forward to working with her to ensure the authority's independent voice is maintained and has a substantial impact on delivering health and social care services in the public interest.
The new Chief Executive has said she looks forward to building on the excellent work currently underway within HIQA and developing new areas of work and responsibilities.
"I have a passion and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality safe care for patients and people using health and social care services and to continuously strive to listen, respond and drive improvement," Ms Fitzgerald said.
"I look forward to working with all HIQA’s stakeholders to improve health and social care services, and progress reform in these services, for the benefit of all."
