Gardaí in Dublin have begun a murder investigation after a woman was shot dead last night.

The woman, who was in her thirties, was shot at a house on Collins Place in Finglas at around 8.40pm.

Gardaí and emergency services were called and the woman was treated at the scene.

She was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she has since passed away.

The coroner has been notified and arrangements are being made for the State Pathologist to conduct a post-mortem.

The area was sealed off as a crime scene and preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

It is believed the woman was at the back of the house when she was shot.

No arrests have been made and detectives are also investigating if the incident is linked to another shooting which took place in the same area earlier in the week.

An incident room has been established at Finglas Garda station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Finglas Garda Station 01 666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

They are also seeking CCTV, mobile and dashcam footage and will carry out house-to-house inquiries later today.
