Dublin Airport is gearing up for a busy period as the long St Patrick's weekend holiday gets under way.

Almost 800,000 passengers are set to travel through the airport over the 12 days between 12 March and 24 March.

Airport operator daa expects passenger numbers to reach 77,000 per day from today until Sunday.

As a result, the coming 12-day period is expected to be the busiest the airport has seen since before Covid.

As well as the St Patrick’s Day festivities, this weekend will also see the Ireland v Scotland rugby match take place in Dublin.

Many people are also availing of the double bank holiday to travel abroad over the four-day weekend.

Because the airport is expected to be busy, daa is advising passengers to prepare for security in advance and make their way directly to the security screening area once checked in.

Passengers are also being advised to check which terminal their flight is departing from prior to arriving at the airport.

Those travelling on short-haul routes are being asked to arrive two hours before their flights, while those going on long-haul are being advised to allow three hours.

With parking space at a premium, it is recommended that those driving to the airport should book ahead.
