Monthly homeless figures down for first time since last may

There has been a decrease in the homeless figures with 8,914 people in emergency accommodation in December down 185 or 2% on the previous month.

This is the first decrease in the monthly national homeless figures since last May, however December usually sees a decrease in the run up to Christmas.

The year on year figures show an overall increase of 714 including more adults and more children being homeless.

While there were 88 less homeless adults in December compared to November there was an increase of 590 or 10% compared to December 2020.

The monthly number of children was also down - by 97 - but the year on year figure for dependents has increased by 124.
