A man in his early 40s has died in a house fire in the Sheepmoor Gardens area of Blanchardstown in Dublin.

Firefighters and gardaí responded to a call of a blaze at around 8.50am today.

Emergency responders said they were at the scene within five minutes.

They found that an upstairs bedroom was fully ablaze.

Crews using breathing apparatus rescued two people from the fire, while other members battled the fire and searched for a third person.

A man was found but died at the scene.

Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
