The Minister for Children has welcomed an independent review into the management of historical child sexual abuse allegations at St John Ambulance.
St John Ambulance Ireland wrote to Minister for Children Roderic O'Gorman stating that the review would be carried out by Dr Geoffrey Shannon, an internationally recognised expert in child protection.
Under the terms of reference, Dr Shannon will review how the organisation handled past allegations of child sexual abuse relating to one volunteer.
It will also examine the current standard of child safeguarding.
Minister O'Gorman has commended individuals who have, at immense personal cost in some cases, had the courage to share their experiences.
Anyone who has knowledge of the matters are encouraged to speak to Dr Shannon when his work begins.
