A 22-year-old man has died following a two car collision in Co Sligo yesterday evening.

The collision between a car and a 4x4 vehicle occurred just after 5pm on the R278 at Magheranrush in Calry.

The driver of the car was taken to Sligo University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 35 year-old man, was also taken to Sligo University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road is closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area at the time to contact Sligo Garda Station on 071 9157000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
