The Chair of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland has resigned from her role again, after being reinstated by the Tánaiste following a previous resignation.

Breege O'Donoghue resigned from the job earlier this month, as well as her role as a board member of Fáilte Ireland, following a trip to Spain – which was not on the green list – during the summer.

It was reported last week that the former executive director of Penneys/Primark was reinstated as Chair of the DCCI by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar, after explaining the travel to Spain was for medical reasons.

A spokesperson for the Department said Ms O'Donoghue had previously clarified in writing that her trip abroad was for medical reasons, and that she had restricted her movements upon her return to Ireland.

"The Tánaiste accepted her explanation. However, she has now decided to resign from the Board of the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland," the spokesperson said.

The Council and the Department would not confirm if new information had come to light prior to her decision to resign.

RTÉ understands DCCI staff were informed of Ms O'Donoghue's decision to resign again last night.
