The National Coordinator of Culture Night 2020 has urged people to support this year's event which is a mix of open and virtual events taking place on 18 September.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Aimee Van Wylick said that this year's event will be a hybrid event that is smaller with less capacity in venues, but there is still plenty on offer, with for example 200 venues in Dublin taking part in the programme.

Ms Van Wylick reminded people of the importance of the arts as she asked the public to support the venues that are striving to reopen their doors in light of the Covid-19 restrictions.

She said that all venues will adhere strictly to Government guidelines.

She said that while events in Culture Night are free, many venues would welcome a donation to support them on the night.

The event is supported by Dublin City Council and is held in partnership with the Arts Council

She was joined on the programme by the composer Tom Lane, who said he has produced a soundtrack for Culture Night that can be downloaded to accompany a walk along a particular route in Dublin, with lots of bridges and places of historical importance along the route.

Culture Night began in Dublin in 2006 and since then has spread to towns and cities across the country.
