Two men have died in separate road crashes in counties Kerry and Meath.

In Co Meath, a man in his 20s died following a single-vehicle crash near Kells last night.

The man was a passenger in a van that crashed in the Crossakeel area at around 11pm.

He was taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan in a critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the van, who is also in his 20s, was seriously injured and is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road is closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information on the incident, particularly any road users with dashcam footage, to contact Kells Garda Station on 046 928 0820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

In Co Kerry, a man in his 60s died in a single-vehicle crash in the Maglass East area of Castleisland at around 11.20pm.

The man, who was travelling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses, particularly any motorists in the area between 11pm and 11.30pm and who may have dashcam footage, to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066 710 2300 or the Garda Confidential Line.
