Trailer carrying cattle overturns on Dublin motorway

A number of cattle had to be put down after the trailer transporting them overturned on the M1 in Dublin.

The incident happened at around 3.30am between junction 5 and 6 on the M1 northbound near Balbriggan.

It is believed the trailer was carrying around 50 young cattle.

Several units of Dublin Fire Brigade, gardaí and a vet attended the scene.

The road was closed for a time but has since reopened.
