From a campaign to provide tablet devices to hospital patients, a message of hope and thanks from children, here are five positive things happening now:
1) Students at the Musical Theatre Academy in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, have put together a message of hope. Aged from three to 19, they recorded their videos at home and decorated messages to show during it. They also express their thanks to frontline staff, essential workers and volunteer groups.
2) #Comfort4Covid is a campaign set up to raise money to provide tablet devices to patients in hospital so they can video call with their loved ones who can no longer visit. So far they have raised over €30,000 on their GoFundMe page and delivered hundreds of devices around Ireland.
3) Oaklodge Nursing Home in Cloyne, Co Cork, is piloting a new remote temperature checking software for their staff in a bid to detect early symptoms of Covid-19. If a staff member's temperature reads as too high, an alarm is raised and they will then be instructed to self-isolate at home.
4) Staff at St Canice’s Credit Union in Kilkenny have been keeping their spirits up by recording weekly synchronised dance routines. They hope to also raise the spirits of their customers.
5) in Navan, Co Meath, Winifred Rowen was in for a surprise when her family held a socially distanced tea party to celebrate her 86th birthday in her front garden.
