A man in his 40s who was arrested in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man who was stabbed in Co Tipperary at the weekend has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Alvydas Nekrosius, who was originally from eastern Europe but had been living in Carrick-on-Suir for over ten years, sustained a stab wound during an incident in his apartment late on Saturday night.

He died in University Hospital Waterford yesterday morning.

A post-mortem examination was completed yesterday but gardaí are not releasing the results for operational reasons.

Members of the Garda Technical Bureau carried out a forensic examination at the scene of the stabbing on the fourth storey of an apartment block on the North Quay in Carrick-on-Suir.
