A 17-year-old boy has been arrested as part of the investigation into the murder of Cameron Blair in Cork a week ago.

The 20-year-old died after he was stabbed at a house party on the Bandon Road in the city last Thursday night.

A dispute arose and the student, from Ballinascarthy in west Cork, was stabbed and seriously injured. He was pronounced dead later at Cork University Hospital.

Mr Blair was in his second year of a chemical engineering course at Cork Institute of Technology. He was living with friends in student accommodation nearby in Bishopstown.

His death is being treated as murder.

Investigating gardaí have interviewed witnesses to the stabbing, the 20-or-so people who attended the party, conducted door-to-door inquiries and trawled through CCTV footage from dozens of different sources.

It is understood that the teenager who has been arrested presented himself by appointment to detectives at the investigation headquarters at Togher Garda Station in the city.

He is from the Togher area and can be held for 24 hours.

Evidence gathered during the investigation will be put to him during the garda questioning. He will be accompanied by an adult throughout.

Mr Blair will be buried on Sunday, following a funeral service at St Peter's Church in Bandon.
