Gardaí are searching for a man following the attempted abduction of a woman in her 60s in Dublin.

The woman was out walking on Blackhorse Avenue at around 7.30am today when she was attacked.

The male attacker, who is thought to have been wearing a white T-shirt and dark trousers, grabbed the woman and forced her into the boot of his car.

The woman managed to keep her legs out, which prevented the assailant from closing the boot.

He then tried to drag the woman out and attempted to force her into the back seat of the car.

The woman's screams were heard by people nearby and a motorist stopped.

The attacker then threw the woman against a wall, got into the silver saloon car and drove away.

Gardaí believe he first went down Blackhorse Avenue, but may have turned left and driven on to the Navan Road.

A criminal investigation is now under way and an incident room has been set up at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Gardaí have gathered CCTV footage and interviewed a number of witnesses, but say they want to speak to anyone who was in the area around Blackhorse Avenue between 6am and 8am today who may have camera footage or may have seen the man or the car involved.

Gardaí can be contacted at the incident room in Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01-6667000.
