Man seriously wounded in Cork shooting

A man in his 40s has been shot and seriously wounded in Cork.

The shooting happened as the man was returning to his home in Ballyvolane at 7.40pm.

It is understood he was shot a number of times and suffered injuries to his chest and arms.

He has been taken to Cork University Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Gardaí said no arrests have been made and they are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

It is understood that the man escaped injury when shots were fired at him in a previous attack.

He was walking his dog, close to his home, when the incident happened late at night in September of last year.

Gardaí were called after a number of shots were fired. The man escaped into a house for safety.
