Two men have died following separate road crashes in counties Cavan and Cork.

In Cork, a 24-year-old man died following a collision involving a car and a truck in Ballinhassig.

The crash happened at around 1am in the Ballyhooleen area.

The man, who is from an area on the Cork/Kerry border, was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been named locally as Donagh O'Leary from Ballydaly on the Cork/Kerry border.

The driver of the truck and a passenger, a man and a woman, were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-serious injuries.

The scene is closed and diversions are in place.

In Cavan, a man in his 50s died after he was hit by a bus in the Virginia area.

The incident happened on the N3 at Lisgrey at around 10.15pm last night.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.
