Monsignor Lawrence (Larry) Duffy has been appointed as the new Bishop of Clogher by Pope Francis.
Bishop Duffy said the news of his appointment came as a shock to him when it was first mentioned.
He said he prayed and reflected on the news and "in spite of my own limitations and weaknesses" he accepted the appointment.
Bishop Duffy said he realised that the call with his new role is to work with the priests and all the people of the diocese.
He said leaving his parish in Carrickmacross will be sad. He thanked the parishioners for their love, understanding and support over the past five years. Saying they will always be close to his heart.
