LÉ Samuel Beckett has detained an Irish registered fishing vessel off the coast of Co Cork.

The detention, approximately 170 nautical miles west of Mizen Head, was in relation to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The vessel is currently being escorted by LÉ Samuel Beckett to Dingle, Co. Kerry, where it is expected to arrive alongside tomorrow morning.

On arrival it will be handed over to An Garda Síochána.

This is the fifth vessel detained by the Naval Service so far in 2018.

The Defence Forces conduct at sea fishery inspections in line with the Department of Defence's service level agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority.
