The referee who was assaulted after a football match in the midlands at the weekend has spoken about the attack.
Daniel Sweeney was left with serious facial injuries, including a broken jaw, following the match in Horseleap on Sunday.
As he recovers in hospital, the father-of-two said he had forgiven those who attacked him and holds no animosity towards them.
He told RTÉ News that he would like to see a day when a referee can go on a pitch and feel safe.
Mr Sweeney thanked the public for their support in the aftermath of the attack and praised the medical staff for their care and attention.
The FAI has begun an investigation into the attack.
No arrests have been made but gardaí say that investigations are continuing.
