Almost 300 motorists were caught speeding during National Slow Down Day, with one driver clocked at 177km/h in a 120km/h zone in Co Kilkenny.
National Slow Down Day ran from 7am yesterday until 7am this morning with gardaí and GoSafe checking 164,032 vehicles around the country.
Of those, 276 were driving above the speed limit.
In Co Kilkenny, one motorist was detected driving 177km/h on the M9 - which has a 120km/h speed limit - at Knocktopher and another was caught driving at 155km/h in a 100km/h zone at Piltown.
A motorist was detected driving at 82km/h in a 50km/h zone at Moylough More, Moylough in Co Galway, while another broke the same speed limit by driving at 75km/h at Mount Brown in Dublin 8.
In Dublin, a motorist was clocked driving at 94km/h in the 60km/h zone of the Stillorgan dual carriageway, while in Ballina, Co Mayo, a driver was detected travelling at 133km/h in a 100km/h at Ballynahaglish.
Chief Superintendent Finbarr Murphy of the Roads Policing Bureau said National Slow Down Day is "about making our roads and our communities safer".
"When someone decides to speed they put members of their community at risk, including children, older people, cyclists and other motorists".
