An incident in which a car crashed through a level-crossing at speed caused disruption to trains out of Dublin.

CCTV footage of the incident at Porterstown level-crossing, later posted to Twitter by Iarnród Éireann, triggered a call to gardaí.

The car can be seen on CCTV crashing through the automatic level-crossing while the barriers were down.

The incident happened at 5.25pm.

There were delays of up to 50 minutes on services to Maynooth, M3 Parkway, and Longford/Sligo, according to Iarnród Éireann.

Services travelled at reduced speed through the damaged crossing and staff were sent to manually stop traffic as trains approached.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
