Murder investigation begins into death of man in Mallow

A murder investigation is under way into the death of a 24-year-old man in Mallow, Co Cork. 

Conor Quinn was involved in an altercation with at least one other man during which he was stabbed.

Mr Quinn, who was originally from Loughrea, but had been living near Mallow for a number of months.

The incident happened on Bridge Street at around 8.30pm yesterday.

Mr Quinn was treated at the scene before he was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at CUH, which has led to gardaí upgrading their investigation to one of murder.

The results of the post-mortem are not being released for operational reasons.

Gardaí say they are aware of the circumstances that led to the incident and are anxious to speak to a man they believe was at the scene.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the office of the State Pathologist has been informed.
