Ryanair says it is being forced to cancel up to 100 flights across Europe over Saturday and Sunday due to a strike by French Air Traffic control staff.

The airline says all affected customers have been contacted.

Ryanair’s return flight from Dublin Airport to Nice on Sunday has been cancelled.

Ryanair says it is also expecting significant delays to flights to, from and over France.

The Dublin Airport Authority says passengers intending to travel this weekend should check with their airlines in advance.

Aer Lingus says none of its flights have yet been cancelled due to the strike.

However it said 16 flights were at risk of possible disruption.

Both Ryanair and Aer Lingus have issued travel updates on their websites in advance of the disruption.

Ryanair says that German and French ATC staff shortages have also caused delays to some flight departures this morning.

Aer Lingus is advising passengers planning to travel this weekend to check their flight status.

The Irish Travel Agents Association has expressed its disappointment at the planned strike.

The ITAA said its members were concerned about the recurring issue of industrial disharmony having an affect on tourism from Ireland to France.
