Drivers at Iarnród Éireann have voted to accept a recommendation to resolve a dispute over mentoring of trainees.

The company said the decision by SIPTU and NBRU members would allow the mentoring of trainee drivers to resume.

In a statement, Iarnród Éireann said the outcome would enable it to deliver service improvements in response to growing customer demand, including a ten-minute DART frequency.

The company said that, subject to approval of schedules by the National Transport Authority, it hoped to increase DART frequency during September.

Iarnród Éireann also said that management and unions would engage in a three-month process to discuss issues surrounding the length of the working week and driver effeciency.

The process to clarify the operation of mentoring was chaired by former Labour Court chairman Kevin Duffy, following a Labour Court recommendation on the issue.
