There will be disruption to rail services over the Easter bank holiday weekend due to planned works by Iarnród Éireann.

A number of lines are affected by the works, which include the installation of a new bridge at Sallins in Co Kildare and the upgrading of signalling systems in Co Kilkenny.

Services from Dublin's Heuston Station will be particularly affected by the works.

Iarnród Éireann said that the Dublin to Waterford line will operate as a bus service from Friday 30 March to Monday 2 April, inclusive, with normal service resuming on Tuesday 3 April.

Services from Heuston to Kildare and Newbridge will also operate as bus transfers over the same period due to works to install a new precast bridge at Sallins to facilitate a bypass scheme by Kildare County Council.

Services to and from Heuston from Cork, Limerick and Kerry will operate as a bus service between Heuston and Newbridge and a train service for the remainder of the route.

Similarly, services to and from Heuston from Galway and Waterford will operate as a bus service between Kildare and Heuston.

Separately, DART services will not operate between Howth/Malahide and Connolly Station on Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April due to track improvement works at Lusk and Rush.

Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets on northside routes for the weekend.

Enterprise trains services to Belfast will operate as a bus transfer between Connolly and Drogheda while the works are taking place.

An Iarnród Éireann spokesperson said that while works are usually carried out overnight to minimise the impact on travellers, some projects necessitate works over a longer period.

It added that the four-day Easter period provided an opportunity to carry out these works without affecting the busier weekday commuting period.
