The Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee has said it is concerned that value for money and policing priorities were not considered in the review into the reopening of garda stations.

In a report published this morning it calls for the Office of Public Works to review the station building in Stepaside before a final decision is made on whether to reopen it.

The review should consider the buildings suitability, renovation costs and the possible need for a new building.

The committee also noted the Assistant Commissioner for the Dublin Metropolitan Region has said reopening Stepaside is not a priority.

The PAC has also expressed concern about Public Private Partnership contracts being used by Trasport Infrastructure Ireland.

It has not signed off on the 2016 accounts because there is not sufficient information about the contents of PPPs.

The report also expresses concern about the reliance of HIQA on agency staff to fill vacant posts saying it does not represent good value for money.

The report also criticises non-competitive procurement practiced engaged in by Tusla during 2016 and drew attention to financial control weaknesses in the Health Service Executive's monitoring of funding of Section 38 and 39 agencies.
