The Department of Social Protection has said a technical issue that led to the delay in payment of the winter fuel allowance has been resolved.
In a statement, the department confirmed that delayed payments will be paid electronically by next Monday.
The payment will also be available for collection in person from post offices on Tuesday.
Fuel allowance is paid to people who are dependent on long-term social welfare payments and who are unable to provide for their own heating needs.
For the first time this year, customers were given the option to receive their payment in two lump sums.
The first lump sum of €292.50 was paid at the start of the fuel season in October and the second lump sum of €315 was due this week.
However, payments were not made to 3,000 people.
In a statement, the department said it "became aware earlier this week of the delay with a number of fuel allowance lump sum payments and wishes to sincerely apologise to all the customers affected.
"The delay was caused by a technical issue which has now been resolved."
