The funeral of murder victim, Willie Lynch, has taken place in St Joseph's Church in Ballybrown, County Limerick.

The 35-year-old man was found dead at his home in Pallaskenry last Saturday.

His brother, Gerard Lynch, has been charged with his murder.

The chief mourners were his mother, Helen and younger brother Danny, his grandfather Liam and aunt, Brigid.

Symbols of Mr Lynch's life were brought to the altar, including his beloved Liverpool jersey, a tractor model reflecting his keen interest in farm machinery, a CD of his favourite band, Bon Jovi, and a hurley and pool cue representing his love of sport.

He was due to host a charity pool tournament on the night of his death.

In his homily, Fr Cussen said a double sword of grief had pierced the heart of Helen Lynch.

He said: "Helen your heart is broken but you are surrounded by loving support from family and friends … A devastating tragedy, all the more intensely painful at Christmas time."

The Lynch family expressed their wishes that Willie's brother Gerard be remembered in a special way.

Willie Lynch was laid to rest in nearby Kilkeedy cemetery.
