A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Marek Swider in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, on New Year's Eve.
The man was arrested in Cork city centre early this morning and is being held at the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork.
Mr Swider was stabbed to death at a house on Dublin Street in the town on Sunday night.
Gardaí upgraded their inquiry to a murder investigation after a post-mortem examination.
Mr Swider was originally from Poland but had been living in Cavan for a number of years.
