Gardaí in Cork are investigating the death of a 42-year-old man whose body was found in the city centre in the early hours of this morning.

The man, who is believed to be from the Carrigaline area of Co Cork, was on a night out with members of his family.

He was discovered unresponsive in a toilet on the Grand Parade at around 1am.

He was taken by paramedics to the Mercy University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the man's death is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.

However, gardaí have sealed off the area on the Grand Parade and a technical examination will take place.
