A woman is being treated in hospital after she was attacked with a chemical substance in Blackrock, Co Dublin.
The attack took place on a path between Merrion Woods and Seamount Apartments at around 10pm on Friday night.
The 32-year-old woman, who is believed to be a Chinese national, was walking when she was attacked by a man described as "heavy set" wearing dark clothing.
She sustained injuries to her hands and face from the burning caustic substance.
She was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where she remains today, and has also been seen at the Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin.
Her injuries are described as serious and may require cosmetic treatment but are not life threatening. The woman's sight does not appear to have been damaged.
Gardaí believe the motive for the attack may have been personal and are appealing for information.
They particularly want to talk to taxi drivers, motorists with dash cams or people who were out walking in areas of Rosemount Terrace, Fosterbrook, Merrion Woods and Seamount apartments between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Friday night.
