Representatives of the Irish Family Planning Association and the Health Service Executive have appeared before the Oireachtas committee considering the Eighth Amendment.

TDs and senators have heard that more than 3,000 women and girls gave Irish addresses at UK abortion clinics in 2016 and many women are accessing information services from the internet.

Today was the eighth public hearing by the Oireachtas committee considering the report and recommendations of the Citizens' Assembly on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.

Representatives of the HSE’s sexual health and crisis pregnancy programme will tell the committee that the number of women attending its counselling services has fallen significantly in the last number of years and that many are now accessing information on abortion services directly from the internet.
