A trial date has been fixed at the non-jury Special Criminal Court for a man accused of murdering Noel Kirwan.

Jason Keating, 26, of Lower Main Street, Rush, Co Dublin is charged with the murder of Mr Kirwan, 62, outside his house at St Ronan's Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin on 22 December 2016.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt, presiding at the three-judge court, fixed a date of 1 October next year for Mr Keating's trial.

The accused man was remanded in custody until that date. His case was listed for mention again on 21 December.

Mr Kirwan was in his car outside his home when a lone gunman walked up and shot him several times through the driver's window.

A firearm and burned-out white van were later recovered.

Gardaí believe that Mr Kirwan, who was a friend of Gerry Hutch, was a victim of the ongoing feud between the Hutch and Kinahan crime gangs.
