A search is under way in Canada for a young Irishman who went missing while swimming with friends in British Columbia last Friday afternoon.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been in touch with family and friends of the missing man who has been living and working in Canada for some time.
It is understood that the 26-year-old had been diving in a river with friends at around 3.30pm on Friday.
The alarm was raised when he failed to surface.
The ongoing search is concentrated in the Beaver Creek area about 260km west of Calgary in the Canadian Rockies.
The missing man is originally from the west of Ireland.
Family members are en route to Canada to maintain a vigil as the search continues.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said: "The department is aware of an incident in British Columbia involving an Irish citizen. Our Embassy in Ottawa is liaising closely with the local authorities and the department is providing consular assistance in this case."
