A man has died in a road crash in Co Tipperary.

It is understood the man's car left the road at Ballyfinnan, near Birdhill in Co Tipperary at about 7.30pm last night.

The 50-year-old man, who was travelling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that up to 12 cars skidded off the road around the same time during a heavy sleet shower.

Gardaí have issued an appeal to witnesses to contact Nenagh Garda Station at 067 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
