Water charges
The Government's water metering programme appeared to be in tatters last night after its own Expert Commission called for it to be overhauled." That's the opening line of the lead story in today's Irish Daily Mail, which also runs with the headline, "Water Meters really were a waste of money".
The water charges story also provides the lead in today's Irish Times and Irish Examiner. The Times runs with the line that Fianna Fáil is in favour of a compromise which would merge property tax and water charges into one household levy.

The Irish Examiner, meanwhile, reports that Housing Minister Simon Coveney still believes that households who haven't paid their water bills should be pursued for payment.
"We can't afford public pay hikes".
That's the lead headline in today's Irish Independent which is based on the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council's report yesterday , which said that increases in public sector pay will have to be offset by lower spending or higher taxes.
Back on the front of the Irish Times, meanwhile, the paper highlights the report's warning of a potential slowdown in the economy.
Colombia plane crash
The other big story this morning is yesterday's air crash in Colombia in which at least 70 people died including members of the Brazilian football team Chapecoense.
The Irish Daily Star and Herald runs with the one-word lead headline "Doomed" while The Herald runs with "Doomed from take-off". The Irish Times and Examiner also run with front page pictures of the crash scene. "Brazil mourns as celebration turns to tragedy" is the headline in The Examiner.
The Star, meanwhile, details how the team goalkeeper known as Danilo, posted for selfies of himself and his team-mates on the flight on Instagram along with the message "We're coming Columbia".
The 31 year old was subsequently pulled alive from the wreckage and called his wife from his hospital bed but died shortly afterwards.
Elsewhere this morning:
Roddy Doyle is picture on the front of the Irish Independent at yesterday's unveiling of the Abbey's programme for 2017.
The Irish Sun has a front page story which is also reported elsewhere today about how Fianna Fail members last night voted in favour of asking former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to return to the party.
But finally, all of today's paper report on Nicola Sturgeon's visit to the Seanad yesterday.
Writing in the Irish Times Miriam Lord describes how following the first address to the Upper House by a serving foreign head of government "Starstruck Senators fell over each other as they battled to take selfies with their famous visitor."
"It was all slightly mortifying" Lord writes, "but Nicola seemed to enjoy it".
Over in the Irish Independent, meanwhile, Kevin Doyle suggests that the Scottish First Minister "could have ordered a coup and everybody would probably have been happy enough...provided she promised to hang around for selfies afterwards".
