A former bank executive has been appointed as acting director of the National College of Art and Design.
Bernard Hanratty, who describes himself as a "change-management consultant" will take up the role for an expected nine months, beginning from next month.
In a letter received by staff today, Professor Niamh Brennan of the NCAD board said as a former managing director at the Citigroup bank, Mr Hanratty had undertaken significant change-management roles as well as developing extensive financial and governance expertise.
Declan McGonagle stepped down as director of the college late last year citing personal reasons.
His decision to retire followed a turbulent period at the college after the comptroller and auditor general criticised the college's failure to keep proper accounts.
Large numbers of students engaged in protests, including sit-ins, over what they saw as the financial mismanagement of NCAD.
In her letter, Ms Brennan said the board had been impressed with Mr Hanratty's understanding of the issues facing the college, as well as his vision and ambition for its future.
