Gardaí have arrested three males following an armed robbery on a post office this afternoon in Meath.
At approximately 2.30pm, two males entered the Post Office in Athboy armed with a sawn-off shotgun. They threatened the lone female staff member and left the scene with a sum of money in a car driven by a third male.
Local gardaí along with gardaí from Kells responded and the car was located crashed a short distance away at Frayne Bog where one male was arrested. The other two males ran from the scene.
Following a search of the area with the assistance of the Regional Support Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit, gardaí located and arrested the other two males.
A firearm, pending technical examination, was recovered along with a sum of money.
The three males in their 20s are currently being held at Kells and Trim Garda stations.
