Former Minster for Justice Alan Shatter has denied being shafted by Taoiseach Enda Kenny following the Guerin report into mishandling of claims of garda misconduct.

Speaking on the Late Late Show tonight, Mr Shatter said he had not spoken to Mr Kenny since June.

Mr Shatter resigned as Minister for Justice on 7 May this year.

He said tonight that after he had read sections of the Guerin report his analysis was that his position was untenable.

"It was untenable that I continue as minister," Mr Shatter said. "My personal view was that whether I agreed or disagreed  - particularly disagreed - with aspects of the report, no-one would listen to anything I had to say.

"We were in the middle of what had been weeks of media frenzy on a whole range of issues."
