Former US diplomat Richard Haass has met Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers in London to discuss the progress of inter-party talks in Northern Ireland.

Dr Haass was in Belfast yesterday to continue the talks, which began in September to resolve problems linked to flags, parades and legacy issues.

The former US envoy to Northern Ireland will visit Dublin later this week before returning to Belfast on Friday.

Speaking after discussions yesterday, Dr Haass said he believed that the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland were ready for compromise.
