Heritage Minister Jimmy Deenihan targets illegal turf-cutters

Turf-cutters have been warned that they will face prosecution if they are still cutting turf on special areas of conservation.

Minister for Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan said there has been an 85% uptake of compensation packages made available by the Government to stop the practice from taking place.

He said Air Corps aircraft are dispatched on a regular basis to monitor the areas in question.
