Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown in Dublin says it needs to make nearly €10m in savings this year to stay within its budget of €76m.

According to an internal presentation to staff of a cost-containment plan, the hospital says it needs to close 20 acute beds, reduce overtime and save on MRI scans.

The Defend Blanchardstown Hospital Campaign says that despite the cost-cutting measures outlined, the hospital will still be over €6m short of reaching its cost cutting target set by the Government.

It has warned that deeper cuts in services will have to be made leading to longer waiting lists for patients.
