Waterford council workers continue protest over sackings

Nearly 140 workers are continuing to protest outside Waterford County Council offices in Dungarvan today following the suspension of two UNITE trade union members earlier this week.

A spokesperson for UNITE say the members were suspended following a dispute over the handling of employment issues in relation to water services.

The union also says Waterford County Council are refusing to give assurances over future employment in the event of changes to the management of water services in the county.

Essential water services are being maintained but other outdoor services such as bin collections have been affected as a result of the unofficial action.
