An inquest into the death of a psychiatric patient in Cloverhill Prison has been adjourned after questions were raised about potentially missing CCTV evidence.

Ivan Rosney (36) from Ferbane, Co Offaly died in Cloverhill Prison in September 2020 while being restrained by prison officers as he was brought to a video link booth for a court appearance.

His inquest was scheduled to take place before Dublin City Coroner's Court this morning. It was adjourned by Coroner Myra Cullinane after witnesses who had been due to give evidence watched the selection of video footage that was to be played to a jury.

Counsel for the Chief State Solicitors Office, Dr Simon Mills SC, said that some prison officers who reviewed the CCTV material believed they had previously reviewed another camera angle that was looking down the corridor at Mr Rosney’s cell in the build up to the incident and which nobody involved in the inquest had seen.

Gabriel Gavigan SC, who was representing the Rosney family, agreed to the adjournment to allow time to locate the missing footage. The family was told the inquest was now likely to go ahead in June.
