The planned reopening of full acute paediatric services including the Emergency Department at the Children's Hospital in Tallaght in Dublin has been delayed.

The services were due to resume yesterday at 8am, but discussions on the issue are continuing.

On 27 March, due to Covid-19, the services were closed and temporarily relocated to Crumlin and Temple Street hospitals to support their services.

This meant children's inpatients, day care, outpatients and the Emergency Department at Tallaght have been closed for the last five months.

In a statement today to RTÉ News, Children's Health Ireland (CHI) said its executive and clinical colleagues in services at Tallaght had held a series of meetings on reopening services and agreed further engagement and planning was needed before it can occur.

CHI said further meetings are planned today, to ensure that services are reopened in a manner that is safe, efficient and meets the needs of patient.
