A number of doctors and nurses at Dublin's Beaumont Hospital have been celebrated by patients who felt they went to extra lengths to help them recover from illness.

Among them was Katie Kennedy, now aged 15, but who was first diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour when she was just 12 months old.

She underwent four courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as many surgical procedures.

She and her mother Paula thanked Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr John Caird for his care during her treatment.

The 'Honour Your Heroes Day' was organised by the Beaumont Hospital Foundation, a charity which raises funds for patient care.

The north Dublin hospital deals with over 300,000 patients a year.
